Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 20, 2026  ·  Version 1.0

This policy explains what data the App collects, what it does not collect, and how the Speak & Translate feature uses the internet. Short version: we collect nothing about you. The only outbound network request is the text you type or speak when using Speak & Translate, sent to a public translation API over HTTPS.
1

Information We Do Not Collect

The App does not collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information (PII). There are no servers operated by us that receive your data.

  • No account or sign-up required
  • No name, email address, phone number, or contact details
  • No device identifiers, advertising IDs, or fingerprints
  • No location data
  • No analytics or crash-reporting SDKs (no Firebase, no Crashlytics, no Mixpanel)
  • No advertising SDKs (no AdMob, no Meta Audience Network)
  • No data sold or shared with third parties for marketing

2

Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The App stores the following data using Android's Room database and DataStore. This data exists only on your device and is never transmitted to us or any server.

Data Purpose Leaves your device?
Favorite words & phrases Show your saved items in the Favorites screen Never
Quiz history (seen / correct counts per word) Spaced-repetition question weighting Never
Recent searches (last 8 terms) Show search history inside the app Never
Phrase of the Day / Word of the Day selection Show a consistent daily phrase until midnight Never
App preferences (theme, font, TTS voices, layout) Remember your customization choices Never

You can delete all of this data at any time via your device's Settings → Apps → [App name] → Storage → Clear Data.

3

Internet Usage – Speak & Translate Feature

The App's only internet permission is used exclusively by the Speak & Translate feature. If you never use this feature, the App makes zero outbound network requests.

When you tap the microphone button and speak, Android's on-device speech recognizer converts your voice to text. That transcribed English text is then sent to the MyMemory Translation API (mymemory.translated.net) via an encrypted HTTPS request to retrieve a German translation.

Sent to MyMemory API NOT sent
Transcribed English text you entered or spoke Your audio recording (stays on-device)
Language pair: en|de Any personal identifier or account
Any other app data (favorites, quiz stats, etc.)
Third-party service MyMemory is operated by Translated SRL. We have no control over and take no responsibility for their data practices. Please review their privacy policy at translated.com/privacy-policy.

4

Microphone Permission

The App uses the device microphone only when you actively tap the microphone button in the Speak & Translate screen. The microphone is accessed through Android's standard SpeechRecognizer API. Audio is processed on-device and is never recorded, stored, or transmitted by the App.

You can revoke the microphone permission at any time via Settings → Apps → [App name] → Permissions → Microphone. Revoking it will only disable the Speak & Translate feature; everything else in the App continues to work normally.

5

Text-to-Speech (TTS)

German and English pronunciations are generated by Android's built-in TextToSpeech engine (typically Google Text-to-Speech or whichever TTS engine you have installed). All audio synthesis happens locally on your device. The App does not intercept, record, or transmit TTS audio.

Please refer to your TTS engine provider's own privacy policy if you have concerns about that component's behavior.

6

Children's Privacy

The App is a general-purpose language learning tool suitable for all ages. Because we collect no personal information from any user, there is no special risk to children. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 (COPPA) or under 16 (GDPR Article 8).

If you believe a child has somehow submitted personal data through the App, please contact us using the details in Section 9 and we will address it promptly.

7

Data Security

Because no personal data is transmitted to or stored on our servers, there is no server-side attack surface affecting your information. Data stored locally on your device is protected by Android's app sandboxing model and your device's screen lock and encryption.

All network communication (Speak & Translate → MyMemory API) uses TLS/HTTPS encryption.

8

Your Rights

Because we hold no personal data about you on any server, most data-subject rights (access, rectification, erasure, portability) apply only to data on your own device, which you control entirely. You can exercise full control by clearing app data or uninstalling the App.

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom and have questions about GDPR compliance, or if you are a California resident with CCPA inquiries, please contact us at the address below. We will respond within 30 days.

9

Changes to This Policy

If we add features that change how data is handled, we will update this Privacy Policy and revise the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes on Google Play. Continued use of the App after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
